Periodic Table Pies



Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small brown onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 350g minced beef
  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 5 sheets shortcrust pastry
  • 1 egg lightly beaten   

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
2. Heat the oil over a high heat.
3. Add the onion and garlic and cook for 2-3 mins.
4. Add the mince and cook, breaking up any limps with a wooden spoon, until browned.
5. Add the tomato puree, Worcestershire sauce, and stock and cook for 5 minutes until thickened.
6. Allow to cool completely.
7. Use a pastry cutter to cut 24 rounds from the pastry, and use to line 2 x 12 greased patty tins.
8. Cut another 24 rounds for the lids from the remaining pastry.
9. Divide the mixture into the pastry cases.
10. Top with the remaining rounds of pastry. And press the edges to seal.
11. Top the pies with the numbers if using, then brush with the egg wash.
12. Bake for 15-20mins.
13. Serve with tomato sauce.
